Another History of the Lost Cities of the Amazon: Development and Utopia in Contemporary Brazil

In this session, the speaker proposes an analysis of the emergence and disappearance of cities in the Brazilian Amazon throughout the twentieth century to the present, in the context of developmentalist policies, and the technical-authoritarian urbanization model. On the one hand, it will be object of analysis how the discourse on the bankruptcy of these cities that mobilizes some of the stereotypes associated with the rainforest, as the green hell, on the other hand how its partner, -Environmental resilience relativizes the very idea of abandonment.
