Amerindian poetics in translation: Krahô songs and their multiple voices

This presentation will analyze some of the enunciative, linguistic and aesthetic complexities of two main genres of ritual song by the Krahô, an Indigenous people who speak a Jê language and who live in the Northwest of the state of Tocantins, in Brazil. The talk will highlight the constitutive diversity of Amerindian vocal poetics (in this case, within the same people) and show how they require different forms of translation.
