Yasuní is one of the most diverse territories on the planet, both biologically and culturally. It is home to Indigenous peoples such as the Waorani and Kichwa, as well as peoples in voluntary isolation. This territory has become a symbol of the struggle for ethical energy transition in Ecuador. This event is the second in a series of collective efforts to reflect on Ecuador’s compliance with the Constitutional Court’s ruling (2023), which orders reparations and a halt to oil extraction in the Yasuní. This is in addition to the recent ruling by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, which requires the Ecuadorian government to comply with this constitutional ruling. In this context, it is crucial to analyze how to implement reparations that are framed within the Ecuadorian Constitution and respect the human rights of local Indigenous populations, as well as the Rights of Nature that were violated by extractive activities, and that guarantees the right to existence of the Tagaeri and Taromenane peoples in isolation.
