Nelson Sanjad

Nelson Sanjad holds a PhD in History of Science and Health from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (2005) and completed postdoctoral studies at the Naturhistorisches Museum der Burgergemeinde Bern, Switzerland (2013-2014). He has been a researcher at the Museu Goeldi (Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation) since 2002. He is a professor in the Graduate Program in History at the Federal University of Pará. In 2023, he was a Visiting Professor at the Centre Alexandre Koyré, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris, France. His research focuses on the construction of scientific knowledge about the Amazon from a transnational perspective. He is interested in the circulation of naturalists/scientists, ideas, and collections gathered in the Amazon, as well as the processes of appropriation, translation, and erasure of native knowledge. His recent publications include studies on the relationship between Indigenous peoples and museums, the circulation of plants, the history of zoos and botanical gardens, intertextuality in scientific works and travel accounts. He is also working on the biographies of European scientists and explorers who lived in the Amazon, born in France, Germany, and Switzerland.
