Gustavo Procópio Furtado
Gustavo Procopio Furtado is associate professor of Romance Studies and Cinematic Arts at Duke University. He is also the director of Duke’s Amazon Lab (2020-23), a space that fosters interdisciplinary, intercultural, and multilingual conversations about the Amazon. His work focuses on Latin American cinema, ethnographic and indigenous filmmaking, and on questions related to media theory and ecology. His book Documentary Filmmaking in Contemporary Brazil (OUP, 2019) won the Antonio Candido Prize for Best Book in the Humanities, awarded by the Latin American Studies Association.
