Denilson Baniwa

Denilson Baniwa is from the Indigenous Baniwa people, born in Barcelos, in the Amazon, and currently living in Niterói, in Rio de Janeiro. He is an artist, curator, designer and digital culture facilitator. He is one of the founders of Yandê Radio, the first Indigenous web radio in
Brazil. He curated exhibitions such as “Terra Brasilis: Agro isn’t Pop!” (2018), at the Federal Fluminense University Art Gallery in Niterói, and “Nakoada: Strategies for Modern Art”, in MAM-Rio. As an artist, he has been awarded several prizes and has taken part in many artist residencies. His work has been exhibited in institutions such as  CCBB, CCSP, the Hélio Oiticica Center for the Arts, the Afro Brazil Museum, MASP, MAR, the Sydney Biennale and the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. At the São Paulo Pinacotheque and as part of the exhibition  “Véxoa: We know” (2020), Denilson presented the work “Nothing that is Golden Remains 1: Hilo”, which consisted in planting and taking care of a garden in a section of the Museum’s parking lot. This work continues in the current occupation of the Octógono da Pina Luz.
